Waxed Canvas Bag

Waxed canvas bag with a zipper and inside pocket. A shoulder bag that can be used for everyday usage, shopping, as well as for school or work purposes, because it is large enough to carry a laptop. When shopping, this bag is a great alternative to plastic bags. Thick leather belts and black rivets complement the waxed fabric, giving a visually tasteful look.

We use 100% cotton, which is covered with beeswax, thus obtaining a waxed fabric. After waxing, the fabric repels water, preventing it from penetrating into the fabric, and also by crumpling the fabric it creates white lines.

For waxing we use natural 100% beeswax obtained from a Latvian bee farm. Beeswax has a high melting point of 60-65° C / 140 – 150° F, however it is not advisible to leave the bag in direct sunlight and high heat, such as in the car, for a long time, as there is a risk that wax can melt and stain other materials. The most suitable season for ‘LACIS original’ bags is winter, autumn and spring. In those seasons, waxed fabric is the least exposed to strong sunlight.

A little bit about history
For the first time, waxed fabric appeared in society in 1930. Co-operating with three British companies, a paraffin-impregnated cotton fabric with high water resistance and good air permeability was created. It was not a long wait until the waxed fabric was in huge demand in the commercial maritime sector. Shortly afterwards, garment and bag manufacturers started using waxed fabrics for their production. During World War II, waxed fabric was the first choice for producing waterproof clothing for the British Army.
